Hicks, Mary Virginia Armstrong, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026 peacefully at home with her devoted son by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Shirley Eugene Hicks, Sr.; parents, Charlie and Hannah Armstrong; four sisters, Ella Mae, Lucy, Nellie, and Katie; three brothers, Letch, Johnny, and Roy; nephew, Butch Armstrong; as well as her beloved cat, KittyBoo.
She is survived by her son, Shirley Eugene Hicks, Jr.; a special great niece, Tiffany Craig; grandchildren, Akshita and Rayanesh Sharma; ‘special folks’, Puneet and Megha Sharma, Liz Hagan, and Mildred Young; as well as several nieces and nephews.

I invite you to visit the Upham Brook corridor, where the land slopes toward the water and the neighborhood’s daily rhythm is shaped by birds, wind, and the quiet run of the brook itself. The building of a DC BLOX data center campus on the former Azalea Flea Market property would fundamentally alter that landscape, and I hope Henrico residents will look closely at what this project means for our community.
